While Golden, CO does not offer any skiing locally, there are a number of resorts within a 40 minute drive from the Bentgate front door.

Colorado is known worldwide as a destination for skiing due to it's dry climate producing light blower powder throughout the region. Some mountains tend to receive and maintain Colorado powder better than others but you can't go wrong skiing in Colorado mid-season.

When compared to many ski regions around the world, Colorado produces what is considered high quality powder throughout winter with some resorts opening as early as November and closing as late as June. With front range skiing including resorts as close as Eldora linking you to backcountry terrain and remote hut networks spanning across the continental divide there are skiing objectives open to skiers of all experience levels across Colorado.

Alpine Backcountry Touring Ski Rental in Golden, CO

Our alpine ski touring fleet is ready for your mid-winter backcountry adventures whether you are spending the night one of the many huts which dot the continental divide throughout the state or enjoying a day trip to a snow park or high mountain peak. Skis are mounted with bindings from Dynafit, Marker and Salomon.

Backcountry Ski Touring is bountiful in Colorado with opportunities available from the front range into the western slopes between our borders with New Mexico and Wyoming. There are many backcountry huts offering private living quarters for your multi-day ski tours scattered throughout the Colorado Rockies.

Uphill access is available at many ski resorts. Some resorts require an uphill pass and safety check before allowing access while some simply require uphill skiers to follow some requirements and rules when travelling in bounds. Check with your destination resort before arrival to ensure uphill access is open and available. Uphill access may or may not be included with your season pass so double check if you've already invested in a downhill season pass.

Avalanche Danger is the most important safety consideration to make when traveling in the backcountry. We offer avalanche safety equipment for rent and recommend Avalanche Awareness, Rescue and Safety courses for first time adventurers. Your safety and the safety of others is your responsibility in the backcountry. Always refresh and review safety practices and protocols with your team and ensure everyone is comfortable and familiar with the choices they are making in the field. Always perform beacon checks when entering an Avalanche zone.
